Welcome to Sober Awkward Top Tens, your weekly dose of 10 things you didn't ask for, but you

0:09.6

definitely need. It's a bit like therapy, but cheaper, less professional, and with probably a bit more

0:16.4

chat about mine and Hamish's bodily functions. Hamish and I will be taking turns delivering sober

0:22.0

truths, odd tips and life updates you never, ever knew you needed. So brace yourself. It's about

0:29.7

to get very awkward. Hello and welcome to this week's top 10 episode. Thank you so much for clicking on me. Click it on me.

0:43.1

Sounds slightly strange. Anyway, in this week's episode, I am basically going to set you the top 10 challenges that I would like you to tick off one by one during the early stages of your sobriety.

0:56.5

The reason for this is that I find by ticking these off, not only does it make sobriety fun,

1:01.4

but it helps build your confidence as you go through the early stages of your sober journey.

1:06.8

And as I said, I'll try and keep this to below 10 minutes.

1:09.7

Number 10 is cook your way through a new

1:12.5

cookbook. I know that sounds strange. Maybe you're a chef anyway. I was certainly not at chef. Maybe the

1:18.5

worst chef I know, and many of my friends know. The sober me has had a bit of a culinary

1:24.1

rebirthing. I have named myself Hamey Oliver, that is not quite caught on in the way

1:29.9

that I hoped it would, but I now spend money on cookbooks and quite a lot of my weekend cooking.

1:35.9

That sounds strange. What does that got to do with sobriety? I hear you scream. As soon as you become

1:40.6

more conscious of what you're putting into your body from an alcohol perspective, I feel it rolls into what you're putting into your body from a cooking and food perspective. Give it a try if you're not a cook. Give it a try if you are a book. If you are a book, that'd be interesting. Any books listening? Shout out to you. If you are a cook, please try cooking your way through a cook, but you have to do all of

2:01.6

them, but do a few of them and feel good about the fact that you're hosting and alcohol is not a part

2:06.1

of your hosting. Number nine, I want you to volunteer for something. I know that might sound strange,

2:13.4

but I find giving back, and this is why it's such a pillar of AA, which I'm not a part of, but giving back and helping others feels great. I think you know that in yourself. And it's not always easy to feel great when you're an over-drinker. So anything that can help feed the beast that is feeling great and self-confidence, we want to feed. So please do see if you can find a cause that you're passionate about that's local. It doesn't have to be all day or all weekend, even just a few hours. See if you can do something to give back. Number eight, and I know I've said this before, and I know you might hate me for setting it, but I want you to try an ice bath. Bear with me. There is method to my madness. I want you to start off by having a

2:52.4

cold shower. You can do it at the end of a hot shower just for a burst, and I want you to safely and

2:57.2

slowly progress to get into the point when you're having an ice bath. Why it is to do with dopamine.

3:03.6

I don't want to get into too much because I've only got 10 minutes, but dopamine effectively makes you feel great.
