New reporting tonight from the Guardian indicates that federal prosecutors formally told Trump's

lawyers last week that Trump is a target of the criminal investigation, according to

two people briefed on the matter.

The Guardian adds that the lawyers were notified before they met on Monday, with Special

Counsel Jack Smith at DOJ headquarters, where they made the case that their client should

not be indicted.
