Happy Friday out there in Catholic land and in conservative land.

Yesterday, the Vatican News Service quietly released a story which contains news of a third

papal letter being written to Jesuit father James Martin, S.J, a third letter, that is, which once again

confirms, at the very least ambivalence on the part of the Pope to the gay outreach arm of the

church. On today's Rules for RetroGra Retrogrades, we're going to discuss this quietly

released third letter by the Pope to James Martin S.J. And we're going to discuss what it means.

So buckle up. The headliner is that the Pope wrongly told Father James Martin S.J. that Jesus is, quote, close to everyone.

Implicit in this is that Jesus is close to mortal sinners, even when they're unrepentant.

And of course, this is wrong. Mortal sin destroys every shred of the relationship one has to

God until contrition and penitence.
