For impure music, you're connected to all songs considered. I'm Bob Boylin with new music from

0:05.0

the South London Punkish band, Shame. So the last time I saw Shame singer Charlie Steen he was

0:11.5

shirtless, pantless, with his underwear pulled up tight wedgie style while spewing lyrics from

0:18.2

the band's first album. This was the South by Southwest. And while their new record food

0:23.3

for worms is filled with high energy, speak singing rage, uplay Adderall, which begins with a bit

0:30.4

of reflection as Charlie Steen explains. When we started writing this song and this whole album,

0:36.8

we basically got the core of it together in about a week's time. We were writing towards the live show.

0:42.3

And this was the first song that we wrote when we started writing. And Sean came up with the

0:48.0

riff and I was playing the bass. And he came up with the lyric line for Adderall and then it basically

0:52.7

made me think about all the themes of a sort of addiction and people sort of the reliance on things

1:01.5

and dependency, etc. And you know this is now about friendship and it's about looking to those

1:06.8

around us. And the kind of frustration that we feel when we're trying to get through to our friends

1:12.4

and they seem to be ignoring us. But the fact that compassion seems to always triumph over this

1:17.9

and you never sort of stop trying. And you know I think this is quite a special track to us,

1:22.5

especially as it came together so quickly and easily and we've been lucky enough to have Phoebe

1:28.1

Bridges do some back-and-vocals because she happened to be in the same studio as us when we were

1:33.3

recording it. And yeah I mean I hope you enjoyed this song and thank you very much for having it on

1:38.9

the Airwaves. Cheers.

1:47.9

I can't let you slip away it's not good for you if you can barely stay around for

2:17.4

a million faces.

2:34.4

Catch you through the day.

2:39.4

You'll probably slip away.
