So buckle up and join us on this dark and twisted

ride through the land of enchantment. Early on a Sunday in May of 1935, two couples from Illinois

set out on an iconic road trip along Route 66. Their ultimate destination was San Diego, so that's a pretty long trip.

But they planned a detour to see the new Boulder Dam, aka the Hoover Dam.

Fun fact, it was called Boulder Dam between 1930 and 1947.

Yeah.

Anyway, the couples were 50-year-old George and Laura Lourius, Albert and Tilly Hebrer.

George owned a coal company and ice company in East St. Louis and was pretty wealthy.

His good friend Albert was a barber in Illinois.

The couple often traveled together on both weekend trips and obviously longer vacations.

I mean, they're going all the way to San Diego.

I hope they like each other.

They were all in their early to mid-50s, and neither couple had children. So they were kind of at

the same point in life, just they had money and they traveled. Good to have friends to go with.

Yeah. Yeah. George was the planner planner and he was known for his attention

to detail so he was in charge of mapping out this entire trip can you imagine doing all that

driving with the paper map um what year is this 1935, it's probably a lot easier then.
