If you don't know Hank Shaw, he was a personal influence of mine as I learned how to cook

foods that I didn't grow up eating. Hank's best known as a forager and a cook and has written a number

of articles across various gardening, hunting, and food publications, while also having released five

cookbooks. In fact, one of his books, Duck, Duck Goose, is one of my all-time favorites.

In this episode, we chat about foraging, fishing, and how to deal with ecosystem destruction

that limits our ability to actually access those foods.

It was a really rewarding conversation to have with Hank, and I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Part of that is because you are the reason I know how to cook duck. So first, thank you for that. Your books have been phenomenal. I've got most, if not all of them. I use them quite a bit. So as a cook, you've been really insightful and inspiring. As a forager and hunter and fisherman, you've done a lot of really cool stuff that excites me,

and I've enjoyed following you a number of years now. So first, thank you for coming on.

Yeah, anytime. I'm glad we could finally make it happen. We've been going around and around for a few months now. Yeah, we've been talking online for a few years at least, and then I finally had an excuse to reach out to you.

So I was like, all right, we got to do this.

And it took a little while, but we got there.

You've had a lot of stuff going on in your life.

Yes.

I'm generally terrible about scheduling things.

So between the two of us, it took about six months.
