A nearly three-decade-old cold case out of Kentucky has now been solved with a murder linked to an

infamous serial killer. Police say Robert Eugene Brasher's.

The killer behind the yogurt shop murders is the person responsible for the 1998 death of 43-year-old

Linda Rutledge.

Rutledge's body was found in a fire at a hearing aid business in Lexington on November 7, 1998.

Investigators say she had been shot in the head multiple times.

Back in September, investigators identified Brasher's as the man who killed four teenage girls at a yogurt shop in Austin, Texas in December of 1991. That building was set on fire, too. Two months prior, police say they got a new tip in the Rutledge case that made them review evidence specifically comparing spent shell casings from Austin and Lexington. It showed the same firearm was used in both murders. DNA linked both of the crimes. Brasher's is believed to have killed eight people across multiple states, but the crimes weren't tied to him until around 2018. He died by suicide in 1999.
