0:13.9	We're going to go right to a live press conference in regards to the arrests in connection with the death of Friends star Matthew Perry.
0:23.4	It's already in progress.
0:32.4	Good morning. My name is Martine Estrada and the United States Attorney based in Los Angeles.
0:38.7	We're here today with our law enforcement partners to announce federal criminal charges
0:43.7	related to the death of the actor Matthew Perry.
0:48.5	Following Mr. Perry's death in October of last year, law enforcement, my office, and our partners represented on this stage began an in-depth, wide-ranging investigation.
1:01.0	That investigation has revealed a broad, underground criminal network responsible for distributing large quantities of ketamine to Mr. Perry and others.
1:15.4	This network included a live-in assistant, various go-betweens, two medical doctors, and a major
1:24.1	source of drug supply known as, quote ketamine queen we charged five defendants
1:31.9	in this matter these defendants took advantage of mr perry's addiction issues to enrich themselves
1:40.2	they knew what they were doing was wrong they knew what they were doing was risking great danger to Mr. Perry, but they did it anyways.
1:49.0	In the end, these defendants were more interested in profiting off Mr. Perry than caring for his well-being.
1:57.0	I'm going to talk about the indictment, the allegations, and the charges in more detail.
2:04.1	On October 28, 2003, Mr. Perry was found deceased in his home. An autopsy was conducted
2:11.3	following his death. That autopsy showed that he had died due to the acute effects of ketamine.
2:18.3	Ketamine is a controlled substance.
2:21.3	It has some legitimate uses, but it is also used illegally.
2:26.3	It is used by people seeking to disassociate from reality.
2:30.3	It can cause serious health effects, serious health problems, including loss of consciousness,
2:38.0	including spikes in blood pressure, and including respiratory issues that can deprive the brain of oxygen.
2:46.0	For that reason, it is a drug that must be administered by medical professionals and the patient must be monitored
