All right, my Bible in 365 brothers and sisters.

0:04.3

We are at the most amazing prophetic book of Amos.

0:10.5

And I have to say this, he is regarded as one of the minor prophets, but there is nothing minor about his work.

0:17.0

By the way, just so that you know, when we use the term minor prophets, what we're actually talking about is we're talking about the length of their writings.

0:26.2

It has nothing else to do with anything else.

0:29.6

It doesn't mean it's a lesser of a prophecy.

0:33.0

It just simply means it's a smaller body of work, but oftentimes those are the ones that pack

0:39.7

the greatest punches. Speaking of which, I'm only going to spend time focusing on one specific

0:47.5

passage in the book of Amos, and that is chapter 9. But before I do, there are facts about this book that you need to know

0:56.1

and facts about the prophet Amos that you need to know. And that actually starts with the fact that

1:01.8

he was not a professional prophet. Amos specifically says that he was not a profit by professional. That's a very important distinction

1:13.0

for us to be able to make here. He wasn't trained in a prophetic school. He was actually a

1:20.3

herdsman and a gatherer, also referred to as a dresser of a sycamore fruit. So God took an ordinary working man and sent him with an

1:34.7

absolutely extraordinary message. And that is critical that we understand that because of how

1:41.7

this applies to us with how God works. Look, Amos didn't choose

1:46.2

prophecy as a profession. God interrupted his profession and literally made him a prophet, and that

1:51.8

is remarkable. Now, the other thing we should know is that Amos came from Judah, but he was

1:59.0

actually sent to Israel, meaning he came from the southern kingdom of Judah,

2:03.1

but God sent him to speak to the northern kingdom of Israel.

2:06.9

Now, he was from Takaoa, which is a small town south of Jerusalem in the southern kingdom of Judah,

2:14.0

yet God sent him north to confront the very prosperous northern kingdom.

2:21.6

It wasn't prosperous for long, but it was at the time that he went to go confront them.
