In the surprise midsummer move of the year, Federal has just announced a 6.5 backcountry cartridge.

It's pushing 130 grain bullets north of 3,100 feet per second, and it's pushing 155 grain bullets at 2,900 feet per second or more.

And here's the crazy thing. Folks, you likely already have a

rifle chambered for it in your gun cabinet. That's because Federal chose to introduce peak

alloy, the special cartridge case technology and high pressure system to the 65 Creedmoor.

That's right. If you have a 6.5 Creedmoor, you now have a rifle that will fire Federal's high

pressure, high velocity, 6.5 backcountry type of technology. Of course, federal terms at peak alloy and has coined a kind of a cool

name for this cartridge evolution. They're terming at 6.5 Creedmoor plus peak, P-E-A-K, like a peak

of mountains or a pressure peak, right?

And it's a play on words because, you know,

those of you familiar with high pressure handgun and rifle ammunition,

whether it's a 257 Roberts plus P or a 9mm plus P or a 45m plus P,

just stands for increased pressure load, right?

Well, now we have 6.5 Creedmore plus peak.
