Can you hear those cicadas?

If you're standing where I am right underneath this tree,

it's unbelievably loud. I don't know if it's picking up on the recording.

You can probably hear some traffic as well. I'm standing next to a dual carriageway

in Yang Pu in Hainan. But I'm standing more significantly and directly

underneath a Banyan tree. And I've never seen anything quite like it actually.

Not particularly tall, it's got this trunk which is all sorts of different bits of growth

intertwined like a braided trunk and then the real feature of the

banyan tree is it's got aerial roots so hanging down from the main arterial arteries of the trunk are these

kind of dead looking roots i mean exactly like as if you pulled up a plant and took it out of the

ground and then hung it up to dry that's what you imagine roots would look like but these hang in the

air and and supply the tree with what exactly something of a mystery but there's a whole avenue of them planted

alongside this road and the cicadas hey i've started walking again they seem to favour one tree over the other

for reasons anyone Anyway, I'm in China for the second time in my life. I arrived here a couple of days ago. I've been booked to do world feed commentary for the tour of Hainan, which I'll be perfectly honest, this is a race that i don't think i've ever watched before

and i'm really looking forward to it the race starts in a couple of days it's five days long

on the island of Hainan which is a chinese province um it it's if you think of the mainland of china

being like uh the british isles or something or the mainland of the British

Isles, then Hainan is to China what the Isle of White is to England. There you go. Except it's a hell

of a lot bigger. It's quite a big island actually Hainan with some big mountains, volcanic mountains
