When it really comes down to it, killing yourself is not as easy as it sounds,

not if you're a conscientious person. When I was told that I had a terminal illness,

the most aggressive type of brain tumor there is, I started giving this a lot of thought.

Of course, there are many ways to kill yourself. The human body is a surprisingly fragile thing.

The problem that I encountered was that what would happen after I did the deed.

I didn't want my family members to have to deal with finding my body if I were to use a gun on

myself. That would likely traumatize whoever found me, whether it be my brother or sisters.

I don't have any kids, and my parents are already dead. The same concerns came up when I

thought about hanging myself or cutting my wrists. Then there was the whole concern about my life

insurance policy. Being in my mid-30s, I only got the policy three years ago, long before I

knew I had a tumor, and if you kill yourself within five years of getting the policy, your family

gets nothing. While I don't have any kids, all three of my siblings do, and my life insurance

policy could pay a good chunk of all the kids' college tuition. If I had the time, I could just wait

two years and then end my own life. But I don't have two years. I barely have two months.

The tumor is growing, and things are going to get really bad for me if I don't end my life.

I'll be in constant pain. I won't know the difference between reality and hallucinations,

and it's even possible that I could get violent with anyone who happens to be around.

Brain tumors do weird things to people. So I find myself stuck between a tumor the size of a

rock and a hard place. Sorry, a little gallows him or for you. Can't help myself sometimes.

If I lived in a state that allowed physician-assisted death, I could legally ask a doctor to prescribe

me medication that would end my life. There are all sorts of legal hoops to jump through,
