The real clause is typically due to three leaks that drain your allowance.

The first is conversation re-reads. Claude reloads every previous message on every new reply.

The second is file reloads. Co-work, for example, reads every file in your folder before each task is done.

And the third is background features.

Web search, connectors, and extended thinking add tokens to every reply, even when they're unused.

Today, I'll give you nine of the 30 habits that Claude Pros use to decrease their usage drain.

These nine will get you started in the right direction.

Number one, start a new chat every time the topic changes. LinkedIn post, then a client proposal, then a dinner recipe, all inside one chat.

Claude is rereading the LinkedIn post and the proposal every time it thinks about your dinner.

The rule is this.

New topic equals new chat.

No exceptions.

Number two, summarize and start fresh every 15 to 20 messages. When you get to the 15 to 20 message mark,

run this prompt. Summarize this conversation so I can continue it in a fresh session.

Include every decision we made, every constraint I gave you, the current state of the

work, and what the next step is, and keep it under 250 words. You'll get the summary, and then you

copy the summary, and paste it into a new chat. You keep the substance, and you shed the dead weight.

Number three, use shorter prompts when possible and let Claude ask the questions. A 500 word prompt cost 500 tokens every single time
