| 0:28.4 | That's my subject for those of you who like to take notes. |

| 0:35.1 | And at this point in the text, I never take for granted that some people are still |
| 0:39.5 | learning more about scripture and what's taken place. And so this may be somewhat elementary |
| 0:44.1 | for some of you, but to catch up some of our other brothers and sisters in the faith, I want to |
| 0:49.1 | give you a little bit of context of what's happening at this point in the text. Jesus is a boy. He's 12 years old, born of a |
| 0:57.6 | virgin. His surrogate father, Joseph is raising him. And we don't know a whole lot about Jesus' childhood. |
| 1:05.6 | He started his ministry at 30 years old. We know about his conception. We know about his birth. And then there is this one |
| 1:15.0 | moment in his adolescence that we are privy to. Nothing else that we know about his journey and his |
| 1:21.5 | walk. And I've always found this text to be very curious to me and my studying dynamic. |
| 1:29.0 | And I recognize that when I read this text, that I look at it with a certain cultural lens. |
| 1:33.5 | You have to know this, that when you read scripture, that you're bringing your own filter, |
| 1:37.7 | your own lens to it. |
| 1:39.2 | There's a bias that comes because you're seeing things sometimes from your experiences or from what you've heard over and over again. |
| 1:47.2 | And so I have to tell you that when I read this text, it makes me think that Jesus wanted a pal-pow. |
| 1:52.3 | I'm going to be honest with you. |
| 1:54.3 | It's going to make sense when I read it a little bit later, but Jesus got smart with Mary and Joseph. |
| 1:58.7 | And when I was growing up, you know, you didn't just say what you wanted to say to your parents, |
| 2:04.2 | but, you know, he is Jesus, so I just kind of let it slide. |
