Today, a neuroscientist guide to understanding your brain.

This is a clip from a documentary that ran on the UK's Channel 4 back in 2017.

The guy with the scorecard, his name is Everton Thomas.

Everton is sitting in a non-descript office about to take an oral exam for which he's been

studying 35 hours a week for the last 18 months.

It's a test with the potential to change his career, to change how he's able to provide

for his family, to change his life.

Everton persists his lips, shakes his head.

His test Everton is taking is called the Knowledge, Capital T, Capital K, and he needs

to pass it in order to fulfill his dream of becoming a licensed London cab driver.

He has to demonstrate that he's memorized the names and locations of 100,000 landmarks

by Kensington Village, as well as the layout of London's 20,000 streets.

And so far, it's not going great.

But fortunately for Everton, the examiner gives him another chance.

This time, she wants him to describe, turn for turn, the most direct route between two

random locations.
