King Gillette did not even invent the safety razor.

What King Gillette did is figured out that selling one razor is a lousy business but selling a lifetime

of blades makes an awful lot of sense. The first year that the Gillette razor was for sale, he sold 51 of them

and 168 of the cheap replacement blades. The next year he sold 90,000 razors and only a hundred and twenty three thousand

replacement blades, which meant that people were beaten their faces up pretty good.

Astonishingly, 11 years later, not just because of promotion, 11 years later,

Gillette sold 450,000 raisers, not that much growth, but an astonishing

70 million blades.
