Summary

In this month’s Nest Session, David and Rob are joined on the couch by Nathan Willett and Matt Maust of Cold War Kids, an indie rock band from Long Beach, California. They talk about their love / obsession with collecting very specific vintage t-shirts, before sharing their memories and passion for their friend and collaborator, musician and producer Richard Swift, who passed away in 2018. They are then joined by their bandmates to perform some of their tracks for your enjoyment. “The Nest Sessions” are a monthly music-focused series where each week Rob and David have a different musician in the studio to talk about a piece of American culture they’re obsessed with, before they share some live music in the studio. You guys have food that you brought.

0:40.7

Yeah.

0:41.5

We brought. Yeah. We brought El Pollo Loco. We probably eat Lopoeloko when recording. Probably the most, right? I mean, it's the most guilt-free, healthiest fast food, I think. Yeah. I've never heard of it until this moment.

1:13.3

So, just describe what it is? We've got a bag of it here, which you've ordered. I got a burrito. What did you get? You got a bunch of tacos? I got a bowl and a bunch of tacos, yeah. It's a Mexican fast food, but healthy? That's debatable. I mean, I think like before, before healthy was so much of a thing El Pollo Loco was always around.

1:13.8

Okay. So it's pre-healthy. I mean, it's not like marketing to be healthy. I think it's just sort of well-made food. But it suits your the band's bodies, systems, everything. It's like, we put this in us. We're going to have a good day.

1:28.3

And I don't think, I think it's just California.

1:31.3

I don't think they have, I mean, I've never seen it outside California.

1:33.3

Maybe Nevada.

1:35.3

Distributing the bowls.

1:36.3

Well, yeah.

1:37.3

I mean, I want to have, I mean, really, I, obviously I'm not going to eat at all, but is there some particular dish you'd like me to try? The tacos al-carbon are, that would be their version of a street taco.
