It's unavoidable if you stray into ghost story territory, that some of it, you've run into ghost stories that are so traditional,

they've been so told and retold, debunked, scoffed at, had chat rooms dedicated entirely

to them, that you get into almost the realm of cliche.

And I'll be up front and say that today's episode is about one of those haunted houses that

ticks all of those boxes. It's about Borley rectory. But before we get to Borley, that most

venerable of haunted houses, depending on your point of view,

I'd like to tee this up by talking about something that happened to me.

People have, I suppose, have been in expectation of hearing about my own paranormal encounters

in this context, and the truth is they've been few and far between. I've met a lot of

people who've told me their own stories, but myself, I have experienced very little. However,

something did happen to me some years ago now when I was filming a television documentary series.

About a thousand years ago, in a lifetime and a career that I can barely remember,

I used to make soft television documentary series.

And one of them was Coast Australia, which grew organically out of coast, which I made for

the BBC in the United Kingdom of Great Britain.
