This is the baseball tonight podcast for Tuesday, April 28, 2006, and today will be better than yesterday.

And today's edition is actually a special edition because we just got word that Rob Thompson

let go as the manager of the Philadelphia Phillies, Don Mattingly has been named.

And this is a very specific wording that I personally think was telling.

He was named interim manager for the rest of the 2026 season so Taylor's working back in Connecticut I'm in my home in Montana making phone calls and we're bringing

in Paul Ambikades of course in this special edition to talk about one down here. Hembo, how you doing?

Well, sir, I'm doing well, although I will say that the last hour of my life has been something

of a firestorm fielding text messages and calls from friends and family and all sorts of folks,

given the fact that, look, Rob Thompson's firing was not necessarily a surprise, but even so

when it happens, especially

this early in the season, it obviously goes without saying has a ton of ripple effects,

considering the fact that he's now the second manager fired within the last week.

I can't tell you that I remember a year much like it, where two highly contending teams with

highly respected managers got their feet you know, feet ripped out from

under him this early in the season. This is an awfully unprecedented time to be a baseball fan,

especially one in Philadelphia. And everyone's wondering if there's going to be a third soon here,

right, with Carlos Mendoza, the Mets manager, the Mets really struggling. He, Carlos Mendoza is
