When my nephew Antonio called me that day in May of 2004 and revealed that he was the son of a sister I never knew about, he unlocked a memory, a childhood fantasy. A Childhood Fantasy

Growing up, I lived in an imaginary world. I mean full-on motion picture movies in my head,

of what I wanted my life to be in the future and in the

present. Lifestyles of the rich and famous type fantasies. And sometimes those made up

stories would make their way into real life.

In elementary school, maybe around third or fourth grade, I made up a story that I had a big

sister.

I would describe to my classmates what she looked like. that I had a big sister.

Now this wasn't unusual.

I mean, kids can have pretty active imaginations, but I'd later learn through a little

therapy and self-help books that my behavior was also a sign of classic disassociation.

Sometimes it was just easier to disconnect, to live in a make-believe world rather than

real life.
