Here are some of today's top stories from the Los Angeles Times.

Illinois and Chicago filed a lawsuit Monday to block the Trump administration from deploying

hundreds of National Guard troops to the city.

According to reporters, Governor J.B. Pritzker called it quote, Trump's invasion, saying the

move is illegal and dangerous.

Meanwhile, the White House says the deployment is meant to control riots

and lawless behavior, but local officials say there's no such crisis and accused Trump

of stoking fear to justify federal overreach. The legal challenge comes hours after a federal

judge in Oregon blocked a similar move to send troops

to Portland, calling the administration's actions an attempt to sidestep her authority.

Now reports of immigration raids and violent confrontations with agents are adding to tensions

on the ground in Chicago as the president expands his use of the military

in Democratic-led cities.

And the Supreme Court rejected an appeal from Galane Maxwell, the former girlfriend

of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Monday.

According to reporters, the justices ruled against Maxwell on the first day of the new term.

Maxwell had asked the court to overturn her 20-year prison sentence, claiming a 2007 non-prosecution

agreement protecting Epstein also shielded her from federal charges.

Maxwell, who's convicted of sex trafficking teenage girls, among other crimes, was recently

transferred to a minimum security facility in Texas.
