Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser last night, defending her city amid the deployment

of National Guard troops by President Trump. The question is, what will the soldiers be doing

while they're in the nation's capital? Plus, we're learning more details about President

Trump's planned summit on Friday with Vladimir Putin. The question is, what does the Trump

administration expect to get out of this meeting? And we'll have the latest on the redistricting

fight down in Texas amid reports that Democrats could soon return to the state. The question is, what did

they accomplish by sitting out this special session? It's way too early for all of this.

Good morning and welcome to way too early. I'm Cathy Kay, in for Ali Vitale on this Wednesday,

August the 13th. We're going to start with the news. The National Guard is now in Washington, D.C.

Some troops were deployed to the city yesterday, more than 24 hours after President Trump

announced he's taking over the Metropolitan Police Department and putting Attorney General Pam Bondi in charge.

In total, the army has mobilized 800 guardsmen to assist law enforcement with things like security, crowd management and perimeter control.

They will not make any arrests. The troops were told they would be there until 25th of September, but the president

has said the deployment will end once, quote, conditions of law and order are reached.

The Tisi's Democratic mayor, Muriel Bowser, met with Bondi yesterday to discuss how to do

most of the federal support.

Bondi called the meeting productive.
