On Sunday, Cabell, the capital of Afghanistan, fell to the Taliban.

It's President Aushroof Ganay, who, fun fact, literally wrote a book called

How to Fix failed states, fled the country, and the Taliban retook the capital without a fight.

Just rolled in.

At the time of recording, President Biden is poised to both address the nation and to presumably

send in a thousand American troops, but this is probably just to secure the airport in Kabul, where

presently thousands of Afghanis and a number of Western diplomats and aides are

desperately trying to flee the incoming Islamicist regime Allah Vietnam pullout in Saigon kind of way.

And good luck to them. This is not a situation where the incoming regime is merely going to implement an unfavourable tax climate or closed liquor stores on Sunday or something like that.

It is a historically horrible despotic violent regime.

When the Taliban came to power in 1996, when they took over Kabul as they're doing now,

they tortured the outgoing president Najibala

and then hanged him from a traffic poll.

Then they created a new agency called Promotion of Virtue and Elimination of Vice

which dispatched morality police across the country in a reign of terror reminiscent of an

angry Cormac McCarthy rewriting footloose.

The Taliban imposed strict absolutely no fun whatsoever policies, which included banning

soccer, chess, healed shoes, the internet, and music.

Also neckties, US or British hairstyles and laughing at inappropriate moments, a concept uniquely terrifying to comedians like

myself.

And I have a feeling that that's not an exclusive list of banned activities.
