Nate Bargatze is a touring comedian from Tennessee. Nate dropped by the studio this past weekend before 6 shows at Capitol City Comedy Club in Austin. He talked about his process for writing and working through jokes, his misery being a Vanderbilt sports fan and perceptions about what it is to be a clean comic. Nate is featured in the new Netflix special The Standups and has appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Comedy Central Presents and Late Night with Conan O'Brien. He also talked about working with his Dad who is a magician and whether or not his wife finds him funny.

All right, welcome back to the forward podcast. I'm Lance Armstrong, your host. My guest this week is a comedian, super funny dude.

about my son's football team, Westlake High School. He's a

senior there. They finish the regular season undefeated. We're just rolling through

the playoffs and and like life is, all good things must come to an end.

We lost last Saturday night to Seyfair,

a school just outside of Houston, 14 to 6, tough to watch.

And every week that we'd win a playoff game, we'd stand out there by the buses and wait for Luke

and his teammates to come out.

And this is the same, they came out the same door that the team that they just beat would come out.

So you'd see these kids coming out, very emotional and upset.

You'd see their parents standing there, emotional and upset. And I just. out very

I'm emotional and upset and I just every week I looked at those people and I was like I don't I just don't want to I don't want to be in that position

but you know, like every other week, we made our way back to the buses and it was so hard to watch Luke and all his teammates come out,

super upset. They'd invested so much work so hard and

to see it come to an end and as a parent it was super super difficult very difficult

for me to stand there and hug him and just tell him good job.

So, bummer, I fully planned on being at AT&T Stadium next weekend to watch them.
