Here's your closing bell brief for Wednesday, May 13th. I'm Alexis Green for the Wall Street

Journal. U.S. stocks finished mostly higher today as chipmakers bounce back from yesterday's

stumble, pushing the NASDAQ and

S&P to new records. The NASDAQ led gains with a rise of 1.2%. The S&P followed with a gain of 0.6%,

while the Dow fell 0.1%, amid fresh signs of growing price pressures from the Iran war.

The 10-year treasury yield is also up more than 4% as the outlook on inflation

darkens. Among individual companies, Nvidia shares rose 2.3%. CEO Jensen Wong joined President

Trump's high-profile trip to China at the last minute. Other chip stocks also rebounded, including

micron technology, which is up nearly 5 percent, and Qualcomm

up 1.4%. Samsung Electronic shares ended the day 1.8% higher, despite the fact the company failed

to reach a deal with its labor union over how it distributes its massive profits, raising the

likelihood of a strike next week. And Walmart stock edged 0.9% higher after announcing plans to cut or relocate about

a thousand corporate workers in a bid to spur efficiencies.
