Summary

Most people assume they're on the right road. Jesus says otherwise. In Matthew 7:13-14, at the close of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus draws a line β€” two roads, two destinations, two kinds of people. The wide road is easy, crowded, and leads to destruction. The narrow road is hard, crushing, and leads to life. Alex breaks down what it really means to be on the narrow road, why none of us found it on our own, and what the Zoe life actually looks like. Lokelani closes with her own honest reflection on total depravity, grace, and what it costs to follow Jesus. A convicting and freeing conversation for anyone serious about their faith.

Aloha and welcome to Amen podcast. I'm Lockelaani and this week's episode is a little bit different as Alex and I aren't recording together, but we still have a special episode for you looking at Matthew chapter 7 verses 13 and 14 on the narrow road. Most people want to go to heaven, ask anyone on the street and they'll tell you, yeah, I think I'm a good person. I'll be fine.

But Jesus says something in Matthew 7 that should stop all of us in our tracks.

0:28.3

He says the road to life is narrow and few find it. Not many, but few.

0:34.4

Today we're sitting in the sermon on the Mount right at the end where Jesus gives

0:38.4

one of the most sobering invitations in all scripture. He's not trying to scare us. He's

0:43.6

trying to wake us up because the wide road is crowded. It's comfortable and it feels completely

0:49.6

normal. And that's exactly what makes it dangerous. So grab your Bible, open up to Matthew 7, verses 13, and 14.

0:59.8

And let's talk about what it actually means to follow Jesus. And this is not the version of him that the world is comfortable with, but the real thing.

1:12.0

Alex, take it from here.

1:15.3

Thank you, Lockelaani, for that beautiful intro.

1:16.5

What's up, everybody?

1:17.7

Hope you're having a great week.

1:18.8

Let's jump right in.

1:22.2

I'm glad we're taking this little break to talk about the narrow road because it's one of my favorite passages.

1:23.5

It's a passage that happens right at the end of Jesus's most famous sermon, the sermon on the

1:29.6

Mount, right? Matthew 5, 6, and now we're in Matthew 7. And in Matthew 7, Jesus gives a bunch of

1:35.7

different groups of two, right? There's two roads, two trees, two foundations, but it all starts

1:41.7

with these two roads. And basically what he's saying is there's two

1:45.4

ways to live. There's two people in this world. There is those on the wide road and those on the narrow

1:51.9

road. Now, what does it mean to be on the narrow road? He says that the narrow road is the way that

1:56.8

leads to life. That's the road that he is and it's the road that he lives. How do we know we're

2:03.4

on that road? We want to be on that road, but are we really on that road? Let's get into it. Matthew
