Klein goes down the rabbit hole after learning she has a digital doppelgänger who has gone all in on conspiracies.
Naomi Klein is an award-winning journalist and New York Times bestselling author. Her most recent book is Doppelganger: A Trip into the Mirror World. She is a columnist with The Guardian. - How and why you should listen to people on the other side of the aisle

- How she learned to loosen the death grip on her ego
- And the importance of coming from a place of calm in the storm

| 0:20.0 | Hello my fellow suffering beings, I am as some of you may know very interested in how |
| 0:26.4 | to stay sane in an increasingly warped online world, which most of us really do have to get |
| 0:33.2 | entangled with, at least sometimes, how do you maintain intellectual humility in the midst of |
| 0:38.8 | what my friend Maria Popova calls a pandemic of certainty where most of us are trapped in self-graded |
| 0:45.1 | information silos. And if you do try to appear beyond your tribal encampments, how do you keep your |
| 0:51.2 | bearings? How do you know what's true? And more generally, what does it do to your psyche, to |
| 0:56.6 | your sense of self, to be constantly cultivating an online persona or brand? And what does it do to |
| 1:03.2 | our culture when we spend so much of our time interacting with other people's personas? Naomi |
| 1:09.2 | Klein is not the kind of guest we generally have on this show. She's written a bunch of best-selling, |
| 1:14.1 | very influential books, critiquing capitalism, marketing, and also taking on the climate crisis |
| 1:20.3 | with titles such as No Logo, The Shock Doctrine, and This Changes Everything. But her new book |
| 1:26.5 | is a real departure. It has elements of memoir, actually. It starts off with her noticing how |
| 1:33.3 | another Naomi, Naomi Wolf, who's also a well-known author and public intellectual for whom Naomi |
| 1:39.1 | Klein, my guest today, is often confused. The book starts off with her noticing how Naomi Wolf |
| 1:44.9 | seemed to have made some radical ideological shifts. Naomi Klein, again, our guest, |
| 1:50.4 | was initially horrified by how many people were getting angry at her for the controversial |
| 1:55.0 | stuff that other Naomi, Naomi Wolf, was saying. But then Naomi Klein got interested in the whole |
| 2:02.8 | phenomenon here about how our digital world is so rife with conspiracy theories and what all of |
| 2:08.4 | that is doing to our minds and our culture. The net result of this deep dive into what she calls a |
| 2:13.9 | rabbit hole, which is described in Naomi Klein's new book, which is called doppelganger, |
| 2:20.0 | seems to be really profound and also, and this is a bit surprising, coming. So in this conversation, |
