The delinquency rate for U.S. small businesses climbed to a three-year high this month,

reflecting the impact of rent spikes and declining revenue.

That's according to a monthly survey from the small business rent report,

which is from the company Alignable. They provided an online networking platform for small business owners and found that 43% of small businesses were unable to pay their rents in full due to

economic headwinds. Nearly half of all small business owners. That's the highest rent delinquency

rates since March of 2021. Independent restaurants are having the most trouble with 52% not paying

April rent on time. On the other hand, just 20% of small manufacturers are delinquent. More than

half of small business owners say their rents are now higher than they were six months ago.

Of course, those 11% are

paying at least 20% more than they did last fall. Another indicator I like to keep an eye on when

it comes to the economy is shipping rates or shipping companies and how they're faring. United

Parcel Service or UPS just released their quarter one earnings report for 2024, and they found their

revenue was down 5.3% year over year. Overall earnings were down 35%. Nancy Pelosi went on MSNBC
