1:02.0

Hi, guys. I'm very happy to be here. Thanks for having me.

1:06.0

I just want to know how did you get involved with this project?

1:09.0

I produced that I've known for an awful long time, named Tony Gans, had been developing Naked Singularity from the book for many years, probably like seven years before I came aboard.

1:22.0

So he approached me with a script that was written by David Matthews and with the book, and I, you know, I first read David's script and, you know, I thought he did some lovely work and there was something, you know, it got me intrigued enough to go into the book.

1:38.0

And the book is a wild beast. It's, you know, it's, it's something like 700-800 pages and is, you know, kind of remind me of David Foster Laws' infinite jest in terms of just sort of all the different kind of literary kind of roots that goes down.

1:56.0

But the most intriguing thing about it was, you know, it was written by public defender named Sergio Dilla Pava. He is married to a public defender who works in Brooklyn, named Susanna.

2:05.0

They both been doing this for a very long time and that what struck me was the voice of the book was just amazing. It was funny and absurdist and outraged and wild and philosophical and had these, you know, this sort of genre mashup going on in it and these metaphysical kind of fights of fantasy.

2:24.0

There's just so many, so many different elements that were specific to his, his sort of entry point to just to show his experience as a public defender.

2:34.0

And it wasn't, I don't know, it just seemed like a new and fun way to in to explore some of these issues of social justice and, you know, the dysfunction of the criminal justice system from the perspective of, you know, somebody who's lifted every day.

2:50.0

So that was, that's sort of what's the red the book I was hooked and I, and I wanted to go back into the book and do it, you know, do it, do a draft of the script, just really trying to channel the spirit of Sergio's voice and the spirit of the book, which is, which is all those things I just described.

3:06.0

Tell me what, what your casting process is like because this is one of the, this, this cast is, is just got a lot of appealing people in it. John Boyega, Olivia Cook, it's got Bill Skarsgard, it's got Tim Blake Nelson, it's got Linda Lavon, Ed Skryne, all these guys are, all these people are amazing.

3:25.0

So what was it like? Did you just feel like you hit the jackpot with the, with this cast?

3:30.0

Yeah, I absolutely did. I mean, I started with John when by the time I was finishing writing the script, John was the guy, like I really felt like he was Cassie.

3:40.0

And, you know, and so he was first person we went to and we waited for him to finally read and luckily he responded.
