On today's show, I have a very special guest.

He just published a book.

The title of the book is Mystery at the Blue Sea Cottage, a true story of murder in San Diego's Jazz Age.

And his name is James Stewart.

And this is a really interesting, true crime, historical, nonfiction narrative book. I really enjoyed

reading it. As somebody who loves San Diego, it was really a good time and place of understanding

kind of San Diego. And this is James's first book, so he can talk more about that. So James Stewart,

or this book, can you talk kind of about your background and what led you to write mystery at the

Blue Sea Cottage? It's a long story, of course, but I'll keep it short. As far as my background, I always wanted to be a writer. It was always what I thought I was best at, and I always wanted to write books specifically. But I got sidetracked from that for a long time. I ended up going into the Navy as a Navy officer and spent 25 years on active duty.

And then when I retired, I started turning my attention back to writing.

I always knew I'd get back to it.

It just took me longer than it does some people.

And so I went back to school here at National University in San Diego

and got another degree, and this one was in English.

And then I followed that up with a MFA in creative writing

at the UC Riverside or actually Palm Desert,

low residency writing program.
