Summary

With the new lockdown in Paris, we're only allowed to stray one kilometre from home. And luckily for me, they've kept the parks and cemeteries open this time - meaning my daily wanderings can now include the Montmartre Cemetery.

Here, you can find dozens of friendly stray cats and hundreds of wonderful gravestones. Here's my episode from inside the cemetery, enjoy!

Hello everyone. You're listening to the Earful Tower podcast. My name's Oliver G. And we've got a bit of a different episode today. It's not a typical guest. In fact, it's not a typical guest at all. It's a cat. In fact, beyond that, it's several cats. 50 cats.

0:23.2

Of course, I haven't really interviewed cats, but that is part of the topic at hand today.

0:28.5

I went for a long, long walk in the Montmart Cemetery, and it's really interesting, actually.

0:35.5

You're going to hear all about it, but the gist of it is there are somewhere between 50 and 100 stray cats living there,

0:42.5

being cared for by a number of mostly women.

0:47.0

In fact, maybe all women.

0:48.8

And I don't know, they've made their home there.

0:51.8

Some have been born there, and it's a real interesting

0:54.3

part of Paris. The reason I'm so excited about this cemetery, as maybe you've already noticed

0:59.7

in my social media, is because with Paris on lockdown again, we can only go one kilometer from

1:05.2

our homes. And luckily for me, this splendid cemetery, the Montmartre Cemetery, is within a kilometer of my house.

1:12.4

So I've been in there walking around like a man possessed, like a zombie, I guess.

1:17.2

And I've just been more and more intrigued by these cats.

1:21.3

So here comes the story of it, as well as a bunch of interesting graves you can find if you're ever in there.

1:26.9

But stay tuned towards the

1:30.0

end of the episode. I managed against all odds to find perhaps the only English-speaking cat

1:36.6

lady of the cemetery. I don't know about you, but for me, there were serious flashbacks to when I

1:41.7

talked to the Crocodile Lady at the canal samata. She even had the

1:45.4

same kind of accent, but I promise it's a different woman. And I'm not going to reveal what she

1:49.8

says about other animals in the cemetery, but I will say this. The word leopard was used.

1:56.3

You'll have to listen to the end to find out more about that. One last thing before we get into it.
