I want to share with you a connection between Sally Man, who's probably one of my favorite photographers and this show, the art of photography that I just recently ran across last night.

If you're not familiar with Sally Man, she is one of the premier living photographers today. She is in her 60s now and she's had a pretty long career

that has covered a pretty wide range of work a lot of it is pretty thought invoking and a little bit darker

she deals with issues like racism, the Civil War,

the Deep South, our own mortality.

She's probably most famous for her earliest work,

which were images of her children.

She lives in Lexington, Virginia,

shoots mainly large format and she is just a fabulous photographer. I have nothing but the utmost

respect for Sally. I had the opportunity about a week ago to go hear her speak at the

modern here in Fort Worth.

And anyway, when I went, she has released this book, which I'm now reading called Hold Still,

and these are her memoirs.

When she was putting together her memoirs, she was researching her own family history and she dug up some pretty wild

stories and I don't want to spoil much of it for you but I do want to share a

connection that she has to this show which is kind of I don't know I think it's

really cool so her I knew

that her maiden name was Munger and I knew that she had some kind of connection to

Dallas where I was born and raised but I didn't really know what that was And in the book there's a chapter on this and she's talking about her great

grandfather who was Robert S. Munger. Now Robert Munger was in the cotton

business and he was an entrepreneur. he owned patents on design for cotton machinery

and the way that cotton was produced in the late 1800s was a pretty hazardous
