Thanks for listening to my call of the day podcast. You can hear my live radio program Monday through Friday from two to five PM Eastern time on serious XM triumph 11.

0:11.4

Karen, welcome to the program.

0:14.5

Hello, thank you for taking my pleasure. What's up?

0:19.3

I first want to say I'm finding this an intimidating process to ask you my question and try to get a handle on this before it really escalates.

0:39.0

Well, I'll do my best and most people are intimidated. So it's kind of normal. You'll forget that in a while.

0:45.3

And until it happens, I think to a person personally, they don't understand it. Yeah, thank you. But what can I do for you? What's the problem that you worried might get worse?

0:59.5

I have moved into a new home and I have a neighbor our homes are attached and she smokes and he comes outside to smoke or he will sit in his garage and smoke.

1:18.5

His wife has had a couple of strokes and has health problems. And so that is why he comes outside to smoke. But now with the nice weather, I am outside. I too have health problems. I suffer with allergies and I've had an organ transplant.

1:38.5

The smoke aggravates my health situations. And so then I have to curtail my time outside and go back into my home while he's out smoking.

1:52.5

That's correct. So I'm my guess is you told a man in the privacy of his own garage or outside under this guy that you asked him not to smoke and now there's a problem.

2:04.5

But you're quite right. If you want to go to a problem and that is how do you know it's well, you have no right to tell him not to smoke.

2:13.5

No, okay. So I know that. And can I say your smoke is permeating my space?

2:24.5

It's not permeating your space. But we're out. It's not his fault. You bought an attached thing where everything is so close. That's not his fault. You could have had an outhouse on half an acre. And there be no issue.

2:35.5

So if you know you have serious problem, madam, just let me finish.

2:40.5

The responsibility to take care of your health is on you, not on anybody else.

2:46.5

Unless, of course, he's inside your house. Then you can say I don't permit smoking inside my house.

2:54.5

But when he's outdoors or in a zone garage, you know, you might want to think of moving to something where you're a little more isolated and have a little more privacy so you can take care of your health.

3:06.5

That's what I would have done.

3:12.5

I would have said I can't live in an apartment building where I can be impacted. I can't live where things are attached and that close together because I could be impacted.

3:21.5

So where would I be the safest?

3:24.5

I moved into this home without even giving a thought that the next door neighbor would be smokers.

3:30.5

No, I'm not. I wouldn't even have known that the next door neighbor is smoking. I would have thought they can be to protect my own health. I have to place myself where I believe I am the most safe.
