0:00.0 | Thanks for listening to my call of the day podcast. You can hear my live radio program Monday through Friday from two to five PM Eastern time on serious XM triumph 11. Jessica. Welcome to the program. |
0:13.6 | Hi, Dr. Laura. Thank you for taking my call. Thank you. |
0:18.0 | So I'll try to give a brief backstory before asking my question. I have a very good friend and we have boys that are the same age and then we have girls that are the same age and then we have a third child who are not the same age. |
0:36.0 | Our girls and our boys have been friends for several years. We do a lot of family activities together. They participate next to curricular activities and our boys actually started junior high this year. |
0:49.0 | They've kind of separated a little bit as you would expect because junior high brings on new interests and you kind of get involved in new things and I've told my son that's that's fine. You can make new friends. It's not a big deal. |
1:03.0 | My son has recently kind of made friends with some of the rougher trouble making kids at school and I my son had spoke to me about it and he said, I had told my friend that I don't think it's a good idea to be hanging out with someone so because he just he gets in trouble a lot. |
1:24.0 | I think that upset her son and kind of started a campaign with him and the other boy just given my son a lot of trouble at school. |
1:35.0 | My husband and I try to say hands kind of give him the opportunity to work those problems out. So we just kept telling him, you know, you need to handle it. You need to be nice and respectful, but you know, just kind of give yourself some distance. |
1:50.0 | It's a week she called me upset one evening because she had that my son had hit her her boy and that she wanted me to talk to him about it. My son was asleep. It was night. So I told her I talked to him in the morning. |
2:06.0 | So my husband and I approached him and we asked him if that happened and he said, no, I didn't touch him at all. In fact, he actually hit me and I said, OK, well, I'll speak to her. So when I called her. |
2:20.0 | She instantly got very defensive. She called my son a liar. She said my son was a troublemaker and has been really just giving her boy a lot of problems for the last few months. |
2:32.0 | And I said, OK, well, I'm getting a different story from my son. So I don't know, you know, kind of where to go. I think they should just kind of work it out. And she was very upset and we kind of ended the conversation. It wasn't on good terms. |
2:50.0 | On Monday of this week, I had gotten a call from the counselor because both boys were called in because her son had cussed my son out during lunch and it was reported. |
3:04.0 | So I made an appointment to go talk to the counselor because I don't want to die on some hill, depending my child. If he's a jerk at school and I'm not aware of it. So I went and spoke to her and she reiterated that my child is not causing problems. He's a very good kid. He's very respectful and that it's the other little boy and they have witnesses to cooperate and they're getting a handle on that they haven't spoken with his mom. |
3:31.0 | OK, could you stop for one second, hold it. Absolutely. Sorry. Why did they call your son's mom before they called her son's mom? |
3:43.0 | Well, the I know the counselor really well and I had I had already called up there asking to talk to somebody and she called didn't call me immediately. It was a couple days and then she called me after she had called the boys in. |
3:59.0 | OK, so the truth is out and what can I help you with? |
4:04.0 | I see her quite a bit and it's kind of an ongoing issue with her. |
4:10.0 | OK, tell me what I can help you with. |
4:13.0 | I want to know I don't want to get engaged in a conversation about whose kid is doing what I can help you with. That's a pretty pointed question. |
4:23.0 | How do if she brings it up, how do I address it? She's not going to bring it up because the proof is her son's a brat. |
4:32.0 | OK, and I would keep away from her. |
