lives in one of those places where the neighbors don't hate each other exactly.

It's more of a mild contempt.

But when some new neighbors move in who are even more contemptible, a tight-knit community is born. From KCRW.com, it's unfictional.

When it comes to silver linings, there's nothing like a meth house to bring a community together.

Up until that, we were only neighbors in the sense that we lived in close proximity to one another.

The couple who like to argue, the old man who bred

boxer puppies in his front yard just for fun. There was a homeless guy who was

always drunk. Once he dropped his pants and went number two in the middle of

sunset boulevard on a Sunday afternoon. My husband and I nicknamed him the

Silver Lake steamer. And then there was the guy who took up two parking spaces with his late 90s model

Camaro, the family who shopped at Costco three times a week, and the punk rock girl

who cried a lot. If I had to guess how they would describe me, I think they'd say I was the one with the

dirty car who was always afraid everyone else's dog might try to attack hers.

That's all we were to one another. a hodgepodge of flawed characteristics.

But that was before the Meth House.

Now we had something we all could be better then, so we could take a break from thinking we were better than each other.
