This isn't your average business podcast and he's not your average host. This is the James Altager show. Welcome to another episode of my favorite things and I'm going to talk about a few of my favorite things.

0:26.0

What does it mean to be a favorite?

0:28.0

Well, it means I'm super excited about recommending it.

0:32.0

It might mean something I was excited about just this past week or something I've been doing research on. So without further ado, let's get started. I saw a movie. I had never heard of this movie. Someone recommended it to me. It's a movie I had never heard of this movie someone recommended to me it's a movie from 1989

0:45.8

It's called Lean on Me. It's like a young Morgan Freeman and I love this movie. I would highly recommend it.

0:53.7

By the way, I knew of the song lean on me and this was a movie named Lean on Me.

0:59.5

I had never even heard of the movie, but lean on me, I would highly recommend the guy who's

1:04.4

saying lean on me, which is Bill Withers. It's most incredible singer. He

1:08.8

sang some of my favorite songs like Grandma's Hands and Hope She'll Be Happier. They're very sad songs like

1:17.7

you almost want to cry when you listen to them but he just got this beautiful voice and sometimes I stand in front of a mirror and try to

1:25.8

imitate his voice. He's got a very like smooth kind of voice. But what I really

1:30.9

admire about Bill Withers is he was disgusted with his record label.

1:36.2

I think it was Columbia Records and they kept, as he became more and more famous,

1:40.5

they kept trying to control the music he wanted, he should do.

1:46.1

Like they thought he would be, oh, be more popular if you do X, Y, or Z.

1:50.4

And meanwhile he's saying to them, you just release an album by Mr. T, an actor,

1:56.4

and you're not releasing the album I want to do, and I'm a professional at this

1:59.9

with a bunch of Grammys and I've sold millions of records.

2:02.8

So he quit the record label and I don't think he ever really performed again.

2:06.9

Like he did a little bit here and there,

2:08.7

but he basically left the musical business.

2:12.2

Also, he wasn't like some young kid when he broke out.
