My entitled extended family is threatening to disown my parents if I choose to marry my boyfriend

all because he's not a part of our religion and honestly I don't know what to do.

I have been dating my boyfriend for four years and we are pretty serious.

We're speaking about getting engaged next year.

I'm a 23-year-old female and my boyfriend is 25.

His family practices a different religion than mine.

I come from a pretty traditional family and a close-knit community

who generally look down upon people marrying outside the culture.

Despite this, my parents have been very supportive of my relationship.

But my extended family have not.

Recently when I told my dad's sister and her husband about my boyfriend,

they took it extremely badly.

They spoke about how I and my parents would essentially be disowned from the extended family

and how if we told my dad's elderly father,

he would take it so badly that it could cause him some severe health issues.

I have no issue with being disowned personally

but I don't think I can be responsible for my dad losing his entire family

and having no relatives to back him all because of me.

I know it's not my boyfriend's fault that my family won't accept him

but I feel as though my parents have sacrificed so much for me already

and I can't make them sacrifice their families and their communities too.

My mom thinks I should break up with my boyfriend
