Summary

This solo episode is all about hindsight, growth, and the dating choices I understand differently now. I’m reacting to listener-submitted scenarios through two lenses: what past me probably would’ve done, and what I’d do now. We’re talking about emotionally unavailable people, confusing anxiety for chemistry, trying to be chosen instead of evaluating compatibility, and the difference between knowing better versus actually being ready to do better.

Hey guys, it's Alana and welcome back to another episode of seeing other people. Thank you guys so much for

0:09.2

choosing to listen to little old me today. There are so many podcasts out there and it is not lost on me

0:15.6

that so many of you have come back month after month, year after year and you have been here from the start. And every time

0:22.6

one of you guys tells me that, it is truly the most surreal thing. Like, it's crazy that I've

0:27.5

even kept the podcast going this long, but I know that wouldn't be the case if there weren't so

0:33.5

many of you who have listened for so long. Like, we're in this, guys, we have a five-year

0:38.3

relationship together, me, you, and seeing other people. That is so cool. We've been through

0:42.7

so much together. When I started the podcast, I was so single. And I mean so single in a way that

0:52.5

the only thing in the world that I wanted was to find love.

0:56.5

And I was going through dumpster fire of situation ship after dumpster fire of situation ship

1:04.3

for years. And knowing that so many of you have seen me go from being in that place to then feeling more

1:13.7

confident about dating to then meeting Jake and going on our first dates together and

1:18.8

you know defining our relationship and celebrating our first anniversary and then moving in together

1:24.4

and getting engaged and getting married and, you know, just now with him

1:29.4

on the podcast too every day. It's a really special thing that you guys have seen me go from being

1:35.1

really insecure and the most anxious, overthinking single person to the person that I am now. And I hope that you hear my stories

1:48.7

and remember my journey and think, okay, if Alana can do it, so can I. But I also never want

1:54.7

anyone to look at me and where I am now and be like, well, you know, she had it so easy.

1:59.8

She just like found someone who

2:01.4

she loved who wanted to be with her and like they lived happily ever after because that's not

2:05.3

my story. And I think it would be a disservice to pretend that that's my story because that's

2:10.8

not real life. So we're going to talk about the dating mistakes that I made that I understand
