About The Show

The Distraction is Defector's flagship podcast about sports (and movies, and art, and sandwiches, and certain coastal states) from longtime writers Drew Magary and David Roth. Every week, Drew and Roth tackle subjects, both serious and impossibly stupid, with a parade of guests from around the world of sports and media joining in the fun! Roth and Drew also field Funbag questions from Defector readers, answer listener voicemails, and get upset about the number of people who use speakerphone while in a public bathroom stall. This is a show where everything matters, because everyone could use a Distraction. Head to defector.com for more info.

We recorded last year from Drew was at South Padre Island, but he did bring his podcast, Mike. I read, I just read in the world history of MTV, and it was so good. And the best part was all the people, well, there were a lot of best parts, but one of the things was like people talking about the MTV spring break in Daytona and like all the posts and stuff

Yeah, I think that that's like even you could tell, I remember as a kid watching like this MTV spring break stuff and being like, I don't think I'm ready to party.

0:52.2

Like I don't think I actually want to do that at all. I want to be there so bad, but it's apparently just all just barf and like, like spent malt liquor everywhere. But, hey, we have a special spring break guest, so we have to bring her on. It's Emma Batchelie area of Sports Illustrated. Yeah. Where are you going for spring break this year? Yeah, where are you going? Emma?

1:24.8

Wow. I feel like there's a chance that it's like 113 degrees everywhere you are for the next, for the entire last week and for the entire next week.

1:34.5

Is that correct?

1:35.8

I think it'll be a little cooler in Sacramento.

1:37.9

But yeah, I am ready for, I think I can take the Phoenix heat after as gross as this winter has been and as cold as it's been.

1:44.6

So I'm ready for it.

1:46.4

Everybody says that before they go to Phoenix, but girl, the most pleasant weather I got in Phoenix was when I jumped out of an airplane because it was colder up there.

1:55.4

And then I got back down on the ground and I was hot again.

1:57.6

Could you like feel it getting warmer as you descended through the troposphere?

2:01.6

Of course.

2:19.1

Well, yeah, because it's 10 degrees. You lose 10 degrees every thousand feet. And I don't even know, you know, you jump from a few thousand feet. And it's cold as shit up there. And it's all blown in your face. And you get back down on the ground, you're like, oh, thank God on my cold anymore. And then you're like, oh, wait, now I have fifth degree sunburns everywhere.
