Hello, Dr. Laura, thank you for taking my call.

I just want to tell you thank you.

You've helped me through handling some fears of my cancer attorney.

So thank you for that.

But that doesn't have to do with my question for you.

My husband and I, we just had an 11 month, well, yeah, we had a baby boy and now he's 11 months old.

And he's a joy, but I want to make sure we're raising him correctly.

And so I've been having a hard time with handling his defiant screaming towards us.

He does it when he doesn't get his way, but he also does it when he's excited or he has bad gas

But I guess I just don't know what to do. His brain is not even halfway finished and he certainly does not know anything about emotional and impulse control.

Okay.

Has no understanding of any of that.

You cannot measure a baby's behavior and reaction to things

by an adult standard. behavior and

he's like a latter day fetus who's outside the body.

So if he's like a latter day fetus who's outside the body. So if he's screaming and you know it's gas then you know certain things to do. You often put them on their backs and then just take their feet and bring their knees up to their chest a few times

while you're cooing and laughing and helping them you know expel gas you just

find out what might help and sometimes what I used to do when my kid was little like that a thousand years ago.

I turn on music, hold him in my arms and dance.
