Welcome to the very first international version of bombshell, combined with our, my first

bomb cell slash women in the national security podcast.

I am here at the Kingston Conference on International

Security with an amazing set of guests. But this is Jess Lauren this week. I'm here solo. I don't

have Aaron or Rada. They did not feel free to cross the Canadian border because apparently we're at

war with Canada right now. Fair. It's a little awkward. So I had to risk being on the other side

of the border or skirmishes

begin.

The conference is a two-day event diving into complex national security issues every year.

It's got a lot of insights from a lot of very smart people, but at the end of the day,

was a lot of walks talking about deterrence among themselves.

So we wanted to have a podcast taking the concept of deterrence

and explaining it to a broader audience and using a couple of different ways to talk through deterrence

in terms of pop culture, in terms of how you educate senior leaders, and also to think about

how people bring different perspectives to this issue. And I have, as I said, a fabulous set of guests.

Elaine Bunn is the former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear Missile Defense Policy at

the Pentagon, former Pentagon Wonk like me. Stephanie von Halaki is the director of the Center for

International and Defense Policy at Queen's University. And Stephanie Carvin, who is also a podcast co-host,

is an assistant professor at the Patterson School of International Affairs at Carlton, and she is a co-host

of a podcast called Intrepid. So welcome, ladies. Thank you for joining me. Thanks. It's great to be here.
