Summary

Last week we brought you geopolitics, this week we're bringing you testicles. Why has male contraception remained such an underground idea, despite decades of research? We speak to Paul Labourie, one of a growing number of men (in the francophone world at least) who are turning to DIY contraception devices to take on more of the responsibility in their relationships. We're also talking about the crackdown on Germany's borders and a surprise move by Mussolini's granddaughter.    Paul is a journalist and photographer based in Brussels. You can find his website here and follow him on Instagram here. You can read Paul's article about heat-based contraception for VICE Belgium here and find out more about Samuel Flambard's workshops here.   This week's Inspiration Station offerings: 'Another Round' and 'The Gullspång Miracle' (available here via the BBC and here via DR).    Thanks for listening! Hello and welcome to the U.S. Hello and welcome to the Europeans,

0:25.8

your weekly shot of European stories delivered right into those ear canals of yours.

0:31.7

It's so weird that you use this metaphor because I've actually just decided to lean into my French identity this week

0:40.1

and squirt a bunch of saline solution into my orifices.

0:44.1

What?

0:45.7

Because I have a cold.

0:46.9

Sorry, did I not mention that?

0:48.5

Oh, but also into your ears?

0:51.5

Yeah, because they're blocked.

0:52.7

But I'm really curious.

0:53.8

Is it just in France where people like shoot saline solution into their ears and eyes and everything

0:59.0

else when they have colds?

1:00.2

Or is it everywhere?

1:01.1

I really don't know.

1:02.3

I've only ever heard about shooting saline solution into your nose, which I think is quite

1:07.3

sensible, although you have to be careful when you've got a cold, right?

1:09.6

Because it can also make things worse.

1:12.4

It could go horribly wrong. I don't know.

1:14.2

But anyway, my French friend who I was talking about this too, she actually has like a little mini teapot that you can use just for this purpose.

1:20.5

There's like a whole industry around it here.

1:22.3

A netty pot.

1:23.4

A what pot?
