Summary

With a little help from the smash hit Cannonball, The Breeders became one of the biggest names in early '90s alternative rock. In 2018, we chatted with the band's lead guitarist and singer Kim Deal. The band just released their first new record in 10 years. Just this past month, Deal recorded her first ever solo album: Nobody Loves You More. She talked about the music scene in her hometown of Dayton, Ohio, how unintended her success was, and transitioning from the Pixies to The Breeders.

0:49.1	Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, she started in music by playing guitar with her sister Kelly.
0:55.0	But unlike a lot of kids with guitars that age, she never really had a real band. They never played shows.
0:55.8	They never toured.
1:04.3	In the mid-80s, she got married, moved to Boston, and after she got settled in, replied to a classified ad looking for a bassist.
1:09.4	Before long, that classified ad became a band, The Pixies. You know the Pixies, right?
1:21.1	Later on, when the Pixies were on hiatus, Kim started to record her own music.
1:25.7	She formed The Breeders in 1989, and that band put out
1:28.9	Pod, their first record in 1990.
1:36.3	The breeders have broken up and reformed a handful of times, toured sporadically.
1:49.9	When we talked in 2018, they had just released their first new record in a decade, All Nerve.
1:55.0	Now in 2024, a career first for deal, a solo album.
