Okay, this is going to be fun.

Nate, it is our favorite kind of story.

Researchers at Cornell University and the University of Florence in Italy

have built robotic devices that can be controlled by mushrooms.

Wow.

Okay, so I'm split, part of me thinks this is the coolest thing I've ever heard.

The other part of me thinks it could be the premise of a horrifying dystopian sci-fi movie.

Okay, no, no, no, it's the first option.

This is actually really amazing.

All right, all right.

So we've talked a lot about brain computer interfaces and we've even seen how AI can kind of translate animal thoughts and

language but mushrooms leave me with many questions. Okay yeah mushrooms are in a class all of their own. We know they break down dead organic matter and recycle nutrients back into the ecosystem.

Lots of them form symbiotic relationships with plant roots helping with the uptake of

water and nutrients and by some accounts a honey fungus in Oregon is the largest known

organism on the entire planet stretching out across nearly 2,400 acres or four square miles.

So we talk about fungi in the show fairly often because of how incredible they are.
