Summary

Examining the women of the Underworld in Homer's Odyssey (and contextualizing last Friday's episode a little further...) This coming Friday: part two of the EPIC takeover that fully delves into its musical depths. Submit your question for the next Q&A via email or a voice note. CW/TW: far too many Greek myths involve assault. Given it's fiction, and typically involves gods and/or monsters, I'm not as deferential as I would be were I referencing the real thing.

The Hello, this is let's talk about myths, baby, and I am your host, live here with, well, a little something in between.

0:42.6

So on Friday, I released the first half of an episode that I have done alongside Christy Vogler,

0:50.2

who's doing a kind of takeover of sorts for the show.

0:53.0

The intention of it was for Christy to be,

0:58.4

Christy, who also is one of the hosts of Movies We Dig, part of the New Memory Collective. And so

1:02.9

through movies we dig, Christy talks entirely about reception of the ancient world, you know,

1:10.2

in pop culture and media. And so the idea behind

1:14.1

this takeover is that Christy, someone who takes in all of that pop culture and media and is really

1:21.9

well versed in talking about it, sits down with a couple of other experts and breaks down this piece of pop culture

1:29.2

that I have not had the opportunity to do.

1:33.0

So, of course, we started off with a bang, with Epic the Musical.

1:38.2

And then the, this is all just, we're going background.

1:42.3

The idea was, okay, great, I don't want to be, you know,

1:46.6

out of it entirely. I'm looking for ways. Part of the takeover nature of this was not just

1:53.7

that we can look at pop culture stuff that I don't feel like I am right for, but also because I

2:00.4

am entirely coincidentally, quite busy working on the

2:06.5

beginnings of my children's retelling of the Odyssey that's going to be published next year.

2:12.0

Oh my God, I'm dying of excitement.

2:14.0

But that alongside building this memory collective and an adult novel that I am hellbent on getting picked up as well, I'm looking for ways of expanding episodes of the podcast that are a little bit less work for me.

2:29.1

And so I was really excited that Christy wanted to do this.

2:31.3

I knew she would do it right.
