0:29.0 | Welcome to the Dr. Berg's Healthy Kito and Interminute fasting podcast, where Dr. Berg takes you on the journey for the truth about getting healthy and losing healthy weight. So I had a question from someone that wanted to know why do I have twitching now that I started kido? |
0:49.0 | So what is twitching or tettney? It's these little nerve impulses that can happen anywhere in the body, |
0:55.5 | random, and they're kind of like a pulsating little contraction. It can happen here, |
1:01.6 | it can happen on your arm, it can happen on your leg, but basically |
1:06.7 | it's either a lack of certain electrolytes or it's a pH problem. |
1:14.2 | Now when the pH becomes too far one direction, |
1:17.7 | with this situation, we're talking about |
1:19.2 | to alkaline, calcium can start building up on the nerve and affect the impulses. |
1:27.0 | And that's why adding outside of vinegar or kombuiche tea, which are acidifiers will usually help this condition. |
1:33.0 | However, when you start doing keto, ketones are acidic. |
1:39.0 | So the chances are it's not the pH. It's the |
1:43.2 | problem. It's the electrolytes. |
1:45.8 | Because there is one key group of nutrients |
1:48.0 | that you definitely need more of when you do keto |
1:50.3 | and that is electrolytes. So if you have low magnesium or low calcium, |
1:55.0 | which by the way could be because you have low potassium, |
1:59.4 | those loss of electrolytes are the most likely cause of tetany. So if you're doing keto and you're not |
2:06.0 | doing electrolytes or you're not doing enough vegetables that normally have the minerals in them, that's why you have the twitching. So in summary, beef up your vegetables, |
2:16.5 | no pun intended, or take some electrolytes and that should handle it. Thanks for watching. |
