Hello listeners, I'm your host Amara, and this is Black Girl Gone, I tell the story of Veronica Jefferson, the 23-year-old woman

who was murdered in Arlington, Virginia on May 10th, 1988.

Veronica stopped at a local market to pick up a few items

before heading back to her apartment. But Veronica never made it back home.

Several hours after she was last seen at that store, Veronica's body was found behind a local elementary school.

She had been raped and then fatally shot.

Her clothes were neatly folded next to her body.

Initially, investigators believed that Veronica knew her killer.

they began to realize that this case was not that simple, and it would

take 17 years before her killer would be found and brought to justice for her brutal murder.
