Most of the defendants will be 25 or under and once I say that, you will see

immediately what's been happening in our society. Somewhere along the line, an awful lot of people

are going to walk out of Christmas who have spent decades, perhaps as long as they had lived

out in the community, in Christmas. If we think they are going to walk out and fit seamlessly

back into society, we're living in a cloud-cuckoo land. But you want to know, if I'm the man in the

street and I believe that the purpose of the criminal justice system is to

administer punishment. And we, as a society, do seem to agree with that. We punish people for

committing serious crimes by putting them in prison. What is the point of that? Why do we do that?
