This is Chapter 4, Fritz Clanner and Susie Lynch. In 1980, Susie Newsom Lynch was taken to see

Dr. Fred Clenner by her mother Florence. Susie had been looking poorly. She'd just returned from

Taiwan, and it hadn't seemed to agree with her. Her mother was concerned about her health,

so she made an appointment for Susie to see Dr. Clenner, her uncle. Susie was born into a prominent

North Carolina family. Her father, Robert Newsom, was the chief industrial engineer at

R.J. Reynolds' tobacco company. Her mother, Florence Sharp Newsom, was from old money. Susie's aunt

Susan Sharp, who she was named after, was the first woman in the country to become elected head of a

state supreme court. Susie called her Aunt Susu.
