The long-awaited trial of Donna Adelson is getting underway.

The matriarch of a wealthy Florida

family is accused of being the mastermind behind a murder-for-hire plot to kill her son-in-law,

Dan Markle. On the morning of July 18th, 2014, the 41-year-old Florida State University professor

was shot twice in the head at point-blank range at his Tallahassee home after bringing his kids to

preschool.

Prosecutors say Adelson, her son Charlie and his former girlfriend conspired to kill Markle because he wouldn't let her daughter move to Miami with their two young sons. Wendy,

Adelson was never charged in connection with her husband's murder. In 2023, Charlie was

found guilty of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and solicitation of murder.
